bubblegum, soda-pop, songs won't stop me
Studying was the absolute last thing on Gil's mind as the senioritis of his last year set into his slender bones. He didn't want to be doing some dumb paper about anatomy or a presentation about US Politics. Neither of them were things he was going to pursue in college anyways. Heck, he didn't even know if he felt like going to college right away! Why couldn't he focus on more important things? Like cheer routines and parties? The thoughts bounced in his mind like a game of Pong while his cheeks puffed out softly. He meandered the long library shelves for reading material he was required to pick up for a literature analysis.Looking at the book title written on the back of his hand, his eyes scanned through the shelves. The Ides of March shouldn't have been that hard of a book to find, really. It was standard reading material for schools or something, wasn't it? Mumbling the title under his breath, he prowled through the selections of books like one of those velaciraptors from Jurassic Park. Head up, he bit his lip.
"Ides of March...Ides of March...Ides of-Oh. You have got to be kidding me."
He sighed and looked up. Of course, he groaned internally. The book he needed was, of course, on the tallest shelf. Library bookshelves towered over him by a good several inches, and this one was no exception. Actually...was this one taller than average library bookshelves!? Gil suppressed an anguished groan as he put the piece of paper into his pocket and ran a hand through his blond hair, chewing the inside of his cheek. Okay, no. This was no problem! Not at all. He was fine, he could do this.
Standing on the bottom of the bookshelf, Gil stretched onto the tips of his toes and reached up as far as his arm could go, just ghosting against the book he needed. Sticking out his tongue in concentration, he made quite the spectacle. A five foot kid making a valiant effort to reached a book far above his reach in the middle of a public library. His middle finger caught the edge of one of the books, nudging it out of its spot, and he grinned. Just a bit more and-
Clatter-Crash-Smack!
Gil yelped louder than necessary as several of the books from the top shelf fell along with his own body. He stumbled back, smacking into something firm. The body of another person, as a pocket-sized copy of Gone with the Wind smacked him in the head. Ides of March remained safely on top of the shelf, never successfully reached. "Are you serious?" Gil pouted, before turning around to smile sheepishly at the person he had smacked into, "Sorry about that, mate. Are you okay?"
